'Manchester United Beat Manchester City 2-0 Thanks To Martial And McTominay Goal

Manchester United beat Manchester City 2-0 in an eventful clash which saw more VAR controversy.

An action-packed clash at Old Trafford saw Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay score for the hosts.

The City keeper produced a howler to allow the Frenchman to score after a clever free-kick from January signing Bruno Fernandes.

United were denied a penalty moments before the break as Fred was booked for diving by Mike Dean despite replays appearing to show connection with Nicolas Otamendi.

Sergio Aguero then thought he had leveled after stroking home in the second half, but he was adjudged to have been in an offside position with VAR checking the incident.

Video replay showed the Argentine striker was narrowly offside with his goal not standing.

The visitors continued to knock on the door, notably from Phil Foden who worked David De Gea, but to no prevail as they lose ground on Liverpool, who beat Bournemouth 2-1 on Saturday.

McTominay doubled his side's lead deep into stoppage time after another Ederson mistake.

City now trail league leaders Liverpool by a massive 25 points with a handful of games remaining this season.

The Blues make a swift return to league action as they host Arsenal next Wednesday in a rearranged fixture.

The Reds, meanwhile, climb to fifth place on 45 points, three points behind fourth placed Chelsea who thrashed Everton 4-0 on Sunday.
