Manchester United will reimburse 700 of their fans £350 each to compensate for travel and accommodation due to their game against LASK in the Europa League being played behind closed doors.
After beating Club Brugge in the last 32 of the Europa League last month, United were drawn to play Austrian side LASK Linz in the last 16.
The game is being played at Linzer Stadium and the Austrian government made a late decision on Tuesday to play the game behind closed doors, leaving travelling fans out of pocket.
However the club are set to reimburse all 700 fans who bought tickets through the club £350 for their travel and accommodation, as well as the refund for their ticket, to the total cost of £245,000 to the club.
Fans found about their refund in a text from the club, "We appreciate the lengths to which supporters go to follow the team wherever we are playing in Europe. We understand that, for many fans, the cost of travel and accommodation for the LASK game will have been non-refundable.
"Given this unique occasion, we have chosen to pay a fixed sum of £350 to all supporters who were due to attend tonight's game having purchased tickets through the club.
"This is in addition to the match ticket refund which has now been processed and should be credited to your account within 3 working day.
"The £350 will also be credited to your account within 5 working days and appear as a separate payment. Thanks."
The outbreak of Coronavirus across Europe has had a huge effect on sport already and it could be hit even harder in the coming weeks.
La Liga followed Serie A on Thursday be suspending the next two rounds of fixtures, although there is no news on what the Premier League and English football will do.
On Thursday there were rumours that UEFA were going to suspend the Champions League and Europa League with immediate effect but instead they are due to have a meeting next Tuesday.
The European governing body will discuss what happens with domestic competitions, the two European competitions and Euro 2020.
