'Only Five Premier League Clubs Will 'Spend Big' This Summer

Only five Premier League teams will be 'spending big' in the summer transfer window - with Newcastle United leading the way.

Mike Ashley is incredibly close to selling the club in a deal involving Amanda Staveley, which is backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

If the takeover goes ahead, The Sun have reported the Magpies will join an exclusive list of clubs ready to splash the cash this summer.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are the other four teams still tipped to add to their squads significantly despite the current coronavirus pandemic.

Everton could become the sixth team added to the list, but that is dependent on Financial Fair Play rules being relaxed.

Transfers are currently in a state of limbo due to the global outbreak and agents have been told a variety of clubs will not be able to afford high fees for players.

An agent explained to The Sun: "A lot of fans need to face the fact not much will be done during the transfer window. We don't even know when it will shut."

Newcastle will be on the tip of everyone's tongues this summer as their takeover looms.

Rumours have swirled in recent weeks about who they could add to their squad with a massively improved transfer budget.

Another topic that has been discussed is if a superstar manager will be hired to lead a new era.

Steve Bruce took over at St. James' Park last summer and has likely guided the club to Premier League safety.

However, former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with the job in recent days amid rumours he's ready to return to management.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp believes Bruce deserves to stay at the helm regardless of the new ownership.

"People have to have more respect for Steve Bruce because he has done a really good job at Newcastle," Redknapp told The Football Show per Sky Sports.

"Why can't he be given an opportunity, why can't Steve Bruce be given some money and the chance to show what he can do?

"He's never had the opportunity before and there's nothing to say he couldn't manage a top-six club, nothing at all. He knows the game inside out.

"Everybody predicted Newcastle would go down this year and he's done a great job with players that aren't at the top level."
