'Newcastle United In 'Advanced Talks' For Napoli Forward

Newcastle United could be one of the few clubs to spend big in the transfer market if the buyout of the club goes through, and they're reportedly already in 'advanced talks' to sign Hirving Lozano.

Mike Ashley is on the verge of finally selling Newcastle but the sale to the Amanda Staveley lead consortium, that is majorly backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, is not yet done.

However if it does happen the Magpies will become one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and are likely to spend big in the transfer market.

That could all begin with a move for Napoli forward Lozano, with Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes claiming that the two clubs are already in 'advanced talks,' with the Italian side looking to recoup as close to the €50 million they spent on him last summer as possible.

Mexico international Lozano moved to Europe to sign for PSV in 2017, after being linked with the likes of Manchester United, and scored 34 goals in Eredivisie in 60 games in his two seasons in Dutch football.

He moved to Serie A last summer for a big fee but has started just eight games for the Azzurri this season in the league and only scored twice and produced one assist.

Even considering the huge break in football in Italy, the 24-year-old hasn't started a game in the league since December 7th last year, meaning boss Gennaro Gattuso has only started him in the cup since taking over from Carlo Ancelotti.

West Ham, Everton and Manchester United have also recently been linked with summer moves for the forward but considering Newcastle's potential spending power and their need to turn things around it makes sense they'd be front runners to sign him.

Steve Bruce's side have also been linked with Lozano's Napoli teammates Kalidou Koulibaly, Allan and Dries Mertens recently but those seem like more unlikely moves.

Mertens, who was expected to leave the San Paolo this summer, with Chelsea heavily linked, now looks set to stay at the club.

Reports on Tuesday suggest that the Belgian, who is currently the club's joint all time top scorer with Marek Hamsik, is set to sign a new deal.
