'Jose Mourinho's Prediction Of Where Manchester United Would Finish In Premier League Was Bang On

Jose Mourinho predicted that Manchested United would finish "between 4th and 6th" in the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Before the club's Premier League clash against West Ham back in September, the former United boss gave his prediction while on punditry for Sky Sports.

"From the outside I think they will finish between fourth and sixth," he said in the studio alongside Roy Keane and Graeme Souness.

"But that's my point of view and I don't think they are capable of fighting for top two, of course.

"I think [it] would be a good achievement for them to finish top four and to be back to the Champions League."

The 57-year-old, who managed Tottenham Hotspur to a sixth place finish this season, maintained that Old Trafford is "the perfect environment" for young players to flourish.

"I think it's very, very important for everybody to share and agree with the objectives," Mourinho continued.

"I don't know I'm just trying to guess. If internally the objective is to try to finish top four and to build from there, and not at all think this season [about] fighting the title, I think it's the perfect environment to try to bring some young players and to try to build something for the future.

After the game, where United slipped to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the Olympic Stadium, Mourinho was far more scathing. He predicted his former club would struggle to even finish in the Premier League top six.

When asked how Solskjaer's side could close the gap on the top two, he said:

"They are far. I am not the right person to answer for you. It's difficult for me to answer

"I have been there two seasons where I could feel lots of positive things and I could feel a direction to go through. And then obviously the third season was not good enough. I was sacked, probably deservedly sacked because I am the final one responsible as the manager.

"But the sad reality is that they are worse than before. And for me it's a sad thing. Maybe people think I'm enjoying the situation, but I am not enjoying it at all. I have people in the club that I love, I have lots of respect for the fans, and for me it's really, really sad.

"When a team is, let's say, boring, you are boring but you still get the results. And in this moment, I don't feel anything.

"I think they are going to really, really be in trouble to get not just into the top four, but potentially the top six. And this with a sad voice and a sad feeling that I say this. I think that this team is worse than the team of last season."
