Neymar 'closing in on new PSG deal' to finally quash talk of a Barcelona return

Paris Saint-Germain are close to tying down Brazil star Neymar to a contract extension, according to reports.

Neymar. whose current deal expires in the summer of 2022, has been linked with a sensational return to Barcelona down the years, but those prospects finally appear to be over.

According to Esporte Interativo, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the Brazil star could soon put pen to paper on a new deal at the Parc des Princes - which would come as a huge boost to new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The report claims that Neymar's relations with PSG's sporting director are now much stronger after a fractious period between the pair in 2019.

Neymar was close to sealing a sensational move to former club Barcelona in the summer of 2019 after struggling to settle into life at Paris following his world-record deal £198million deal, but Leonardo rejected any switch.

But PSG have now put all their focus behind getting Neymar to sign a new deal amid the ongoing uncertainty around Kylian Mbappe's future, with Real Madrid circling.

The report states that PSG will put forward their lucrative new proposal to Neymar in the coming days before he finalises his decision.

Barca's interest in Neymar appears to have cooled with the Spanish club in a financial mess and Lionel Messi's future far from certain.

Neymar has featured 12 times for the French giants this season, scoring nine goals and laying on five assists, but an ankle injury has kept him on the sidelines for the last month.

However, Neymar provided PSG and Pochettino a huge boost by returning to training on Monday ahead of Wednesday's Champions Trophy showdown against Marseille.

Should the 28-year-old miss the match, his next target will be the trip to Angers on Saturday.
