West Brom and Brighton were involved in one of the most farcical referee decisions of the season, as Lee Mason changed his mind twice on an equaliser for Lewis Dunk.
The Baggies took the lead in the 11th minute, after Kyle Bartley headed home from a corner, but Brighton thought they'd got level in the 29th minute.
Lewis Dunk took a quick free kick just outside the area and into an empty net. as Sam Johnstone continued to adjust his wall.
Lee Mason initially ruled the goal out but the VAR official told him to allow the goal because he'd already blown his whistle to allow the goal.
Players of both teams surrounded the ref as he continued to talk to the video official. Eventually they ruled out the goal because Mason had blown the whistle a second time just moments before the ball was going in, but importantly before it crossed the line, leading to Brighton getting a retake.

Maybe he will get his money back after this debacle.

This is a first even with the levels this season’s bonkersness. Lee Mason has disallowed a goal, then given a goal, then disallowed a goal. Best, confused of Leicester.

This is shambolic from Lee Mason. Yet more evidence that the standard of refereeing in this country is on the floor.

Lee Mason is going to get so much heat now, and demands for an explanation, and I reckon the only honest response he could truly give is:

There was no obvious reason why Mason blew the whistle the second time but it may have been that he suddenly realised the Baggies keeper wasn't ready.
Both Dan Burn and Neal Maupay were stood in offside positions, though it's unlikely they were in Sam Johnstone's eyeline, but it wasn't the reason for disallowing the goal as the free kick was retaken.
Graham Potter will likely be fuming and the fact that Pascal Gross missed a penalty earlier in the first half will not have helped his mood.
Should it have been a goal?
