'Liverpool Fans Put Up Banners Outside Of Anfield

Liverpool fans have hung up two banners outside of Anfield following the release of the plans about the European Super League.

On Sunday, the reigning Premier League champions, along with rivals Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, put out a statement revealing their plans for the new competition.

It has been met with widespread anger, with Gary Neville, Ander Herrera and Bacary Sagna amongst the high profile names to come out against the teams.

With no fans inside stadiums it will be difficult for fans to demonstrate their full anger towards the clubs, especially those who support the league's 'Big Six.'

Some Liverpool fans have started showing their opposition towards their club, by hanging banners outside of Anfield on Monday.

"LFC Fans Against European Super League" and Shame On You. RIP LFC. 1892-2021" banners were pictured on the gates of the famous stadium.

Liverpool supporters' group Spion Kop 1906 have also removed all their banners from inside the ground as part of the protest against the club's owners.

A spokesperson for the group told the Athletic, "We've been in contact with the club today to make it clear we want all the banners and the flags all taken down as soon as possible. We're taking our support is off the table from now.

"We feel we can no longer give our support to a club which puts financial greed above the integrity of the game.

"It's disgraceful and absolutely disgusting what the owners have done. We don't know how it's got this far without fans being consulted.

"They have sold their soul.

"No Liverpool fan could get on board with this Super League. It would be good to hear the manager and the players come out and back the fans on this."

It will be interesting to see how fans continue to campaign against the Super League, with so few on board with the new plans.
