A controversial incident involving Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during a 2003 clash against Arsenal has become a talking point again on social media following the Son Heung-min incident on Sunday afternoon.
The Norwegian boss, who played under Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford between 1996 and 2007, was critical of Spurs forward Son after United had a goal ruled out when Scott McTominay 'caught' the South Korean in the face with a flailing arm.
In his post-match interview, Solskjaer gave his honest thoughts on the incident, saying: "If that was my son and he stays down and he needs his mates to help him up, he doesn't get food because that's embarrassing. The game's absolutely gone."
No Foul ❌

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher says, Scott McTominay's foul on Heung Min Son was not convincing but suggest that as soon as the ref sees it in slow motion on VAR he had no other option pic.twitter.com/MKLJLbR4gB
🗣 "If my son stays down like this for 3 minutes and needs 10 mates to help him up, he won't get any food."

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho later slammed Solskjaer for his remarks about Son, but was he right to criticise the South Korean international for going down so easily? Some believe an incident against Arsenal involving the Norwegian was very similar.
Back in 2003, during a Premiership clash between Manchester United and The Gunners at Highbury, defender Sol Campbell was sent off in the 82nd minute for the use of an elbow that appeared to catch Solskjaer in the face during the 2-2 draw.
You can see the clip below.
Although United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was angered by suggestions that Solskjaer had tried to make the most of the incident, Campbell was handed a four-match ban for his actions and as a result, missed the club's FA Cup final. But did he deserve to be sent off? Was it purely accidental?
A fair few people on social media brought up the controversy on that day at Highbury following the disallowed goal.
When Sky Sports do their post game interview with Solskjaer they should forcefully play him that clip from 2003 when Sol Campbell brushed him with his fingernail

Just saw it now, 100% purely accidental by the Utd player who tried to just palm him off but the game is non-contact now. I've seen similar incidents, with Sol Campbell getting a red card v Utd doing the exact same thing to Solskjaer, both were soft incidents.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer complaining about diving, thinking we don't remember the cringe-inducing theatrics that got Sol Campbell sent off in the 2003 run in, and cost Sol a spot in the FA Cup Final#hyprocrite #ClassicFergieRef

Hopefully when Solskjaer says McTominay's hand to the face isn't a foul, someone will show him a video of himself and Sol Campbell

Solskjaer can have no complaints about Son rolling around after getting smashed in the face https://t.co/9rEPKhL9si

It’s a free kick simple as that....Mctominay should be off as well for his 2nd yellow card. Remember Campbell on Solskjaer years ago? very similar, and Sol got sent off for that even though it was accidental.
