Liverpool and Manchester United are in talks to join a FIFA-backed tournament named the European Premier League.
Sky News have revealed a host of top clubs from around the world are set to be involved, with a $6 billion [£4.6 billion] package being created to fund a start-up in 2022.
A number of teams from Europe's top five leagues [England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain] could take part and are in negotiations to be named as "founding members."
FIFA are involved with the league, which is earmarked to contain 18 teams with fixtures taking place in midweek, during domestic seasons.

The teams who finish at the top of the table will then take part in a knockout tournament to determine the winner.
When it comes to Premier League involvement, one of the traditional 'Big Six' will miss out as five teams from England are mooted right now.
An official announcement could come later this month and the proposal is said to "potentially be the most important development in world club football for decades."
Insiders claim the tournament would likely "usurp" the UEFA Champions League and as a result, UEFA are yet to back it.
Football fans and pundits have reacted to the initial proposal and they aren't pleased.

There’s literally no point in a European premier league. What makes the champions league so special is that you get multiple big teams that rarely play each other which makes every match a special occasion. Seeing them play each other twice a season takes that away

A European Premier League would absolutely kill football off. Worth 6 billion with the winner getting hundreds of millions in prize money meanwhile small clubs and non league teams are struggling to stay afloat. The game is completely ruined

If City back these plans for a European Premier League, I don’t support it in the slightest. This is where the investment and money in the sport finally kills it once and for all.

The news comes weeks after Project Big Picture was shot down by Premier League clubs, as they feared it would give the wealthier clubs too much power.
